TO DIE FOUR One of the plays I wrote, "Jackie the Giant Killer," was performed as part of the anthology TO DIE FOUR at the Second Stage Theater in Manhattan this past Thursday night and on Saturday. It was great. Never ceases to amaze me how different actors can add so much new life and dimension to characters that have been in my head for years! I've seen so many different people read the part of Charlie Nova, but David Renwaz brought a fresh interpretation to the stage. And both my fiance and I were really impressed with Jennifer Cohen's performance -- in my opinion, the best she's ever done! Regarding the rest of the TO DIE FOUR show, great job by all. Kevin Clancy's play "Controlling Interest" holds a special place in my heart since it was the first reading I ever did for Darknight Productions. And Kevin and Monica Kester were fantastic in their performances, bringing all the humor, darkness, thrills, and shocks to the roles. I'm so glad Kevin finally got a chance to present this as a full production -- I've seen it a couple of times as a reading, and it totally comes alive and goes to a new level once the scripts are out of the actors' hands. Tom Clancy's play "The Last Few Steps" was also great, and one I hadn't seen before. Kevin and Tom both have such different writing styles yet they both manage to create such vivid characters and interesting scenarios. The play really touched me and I loved the performances. Tom Miller always brings such genuine emotion to every role he plays -- he's such a pleasure to watch. And it was great seeing Charles Giegerich back on stage! John Simmons was terrific as the priest. Juliana and I both loved the new faces -- the guys who played the guard (Jesse Reich) and the fellow inmate (Larry Floyd) were amazing. I hope we get to see them in future productions. Finally, Danielle Nichole Tyler's play "All That She Wants" was a nice way to wrap up the evening. Bold, daring, entertaining performances by Danielle and James Earnest. Big congratulations to Danielle -- I've seen this play grow from a first draft in our writers group and I can see all the work she's put into it. She should feel very proud. Can't wait to see more stuff she's written! |
